I am curious if anyone has info on an update for Panels with Drupal 6? I've looked over the Panels sections for a while, and there is a lot of activity on Panels 2 but I can't fine ANYTHING about a Drupal 6 implementation...

I'm new to Drupal, and the more sites powered by Drupal, the more I see the Views/Panels2 combination. I'm trying to put together a starter site in Drupal and trying to determine which drupal core I should go with. My 5.x core gives me constant security errors ... but there's clearly much more support/modules for it than 6.x.

Thoughts anyone? Are there other tools / modules available for 6.x that I'm completely overlooking somehow? Thanks in advance.

I am really new to Drupal and I am NOT a programmer, so I heavily rely on all these handy dandy modules. I am using Drupal 6, any suggestions re: an alternative to panels? I just want to create my "homepage" with a few different regions of static data (photo and text basically).
