Hi,

At the moment my threshold for node promotion is 5. But then I noticed that even when karma number for that scoop falls below that number, the scoop still remains on the front page.

This is potentially a security risk ... say for instance someone submits a fascist article or a porn link, and then after logging into few fake accounts promotes it to the front page. Say also that this is happening while the moderators are not around, while other drigg end-user keep drigging it down and trying to act as moderators. As a result you have a fascist or porn article with a negative karma number "-14", which is still right there on the front page!

Logically, I assumed that the Promote feature would also be accompanied by an automatic *Demote* feature, whereby once the karma number falls below certain number (not necessarily the exact number of the promote), it would automatically have it's "Promote to front page" unchecked.

So for instance, one could have 16 as a promote threshold, and 7 as a demote threshold. In effect the nodes with 16 and above will be promoted, BUT once promoted, they will not be demoted until the karma number falls below 7.

Could this be done in drigg? I think it's one of those must-have features...

thanks

Hi,

It's a nice feature, added to the list. But I don't think it's a priority.
We ran fsdaily.com for a while, and never actually needed it (and fsdaily is _very_ popular...).

What we should have, is also an admin screen with all of the stories which have a threshold lower than N, as well as the ability to demote stories.

Bye,

Merc.

yes, I agree ... it's not a priority, but something to think about and plan for.

fsdaily is an IT magazine, which is why maybe you didn't have these kinds of problems, but what if you have content that is more immediately political or sensitive? We all know the existing problems of Digg.com, that much of what appears on the front page is determined by a very small number of individuals, and coordinated voting.

And besides, it's kinda confusing to the end-users to see a node with, say, negative "-4" karma on the front page. It just doesn't make sense :)

Hi,

OK.
I actually had an user request where they wanted me to promote something if it got enough negative votes :-D
Everybody is different...

Hi,
If they want to promote something that receives most "boos", tell them to replace the image of the UP button, with a DOWN button, and place a "-" in front of karma by default, and replace the words "Promoted" with "Worst" and "Most popular" is "Most unpopular". This may sound funny, but I've seen websites like those ...like the "The Worst Of The Internet" or "The Ugliest Pictures" ;D

Fortunately, Drigg is versatile enough for all these crazy things.

But, you said you added this feature-request to the list, right?

Hi,

It was "informal", and I never ended up doing it...
Ahhhh me turning down paid work...

More info: I tried to demote scoops from the front-page using the Voting Actions module, but for some reason it didn't work :|

Hi,

I think that's because the minute a story gets a vote, drigg's promotion module will re-promote it instantaneously (as it's supposed to do)

In Pligg and Digg both, this is handled via the "bury" feature. Doesn't drigg have a bury button?

Hi,

This is a new support request.
Not at the moment. Right now, you can have the select box so that you can assign negative votes to a story. Then, when this feature is implemented, you will be able to demote stories with an excessive number of negative votes.

But, it's all based on votes -- as it should be.

Hi,

Demoting is not something that works structurally with Drigg. Once a story is promoted, it's up to the administrators to "kill it" (that is, the story is not references anywhere in the main Drigg queues).

There is also only one "promoted" time...

Demoting would be messy at best.
