www.mobbly.net

Have been working on my site www.mobbly.net for a couple of years now, but only really got going in the last six months, but boy is it hard to make the site stand out from the crowd.
Thought I would share my experiences with the community so others might add some pearls of wisdom. Basically I am working on an extreme sports site beginning with winter sports.
It is hoped to be a community based site with news, resort info, gear..... But due to the fact that it a hobby and not our full time jobs it is taking a while, and there are only two of us at it.

As the site stands at the moment about it is about 1000 pages primarily news and resort info.
What I will do here is list the SEO stuff as I do them, and add anything anyone want to put into the list.

SEO stuff done

I have installed the SEO module and followed it.
Page title module
Clean URL’s
Got a Google account
Set up feedburner to syndicate news
Added digg and others
Got to make some changes to prevent duplicate urls

Ie www.mobbly.net (primary url)
Redirect Mobbly.net
Redirect with / at the end

Planning to do this via .HTAccess (Advice on this would be good)

Secondly i would like to ask anyone who spends time on a ski resort to help by adding photos to the site

Thirdly, any comments would be greatly appreciated
And finally, the site is on shared hosting as I don’t have the money yet to pay for dedicated hosting

Awesome, I just signed up.

What starting theme did you use ?

And how did you make the profile page look so good ? Is it the adv_profile module ?

What would you get on dedicated hosting ?

Hi Joe

In answer to your questions,

no starting theme it is from the ground up

no it is not the adv_profile this is a great module and we did use it for a while but changed for our own customised design

And with dedicated hosting we are looking for speed

www.mobbly.com

but it is a slow process,

www.mobbly.com

.HTAccess

jimmyg164 - April 19, 2008 - 13:00

Added to .HTAcess

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mobbly\.net$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mobbly.net/$1 [L,R=301]

Thus only allowing www access to my site, the reason for this is google does not duplicates

www.mobbly.com

sitemap

jimmyg164 - April 20, 2008 - 17:37

removed the sitemap
XML Sitemap: Term
XML Sitemap: User

from module admin removing duplicates

are there any SEO's out there who can add to this post

www.mobbly.com

www.mobbly.com

How do you determine when

joehenriod - April 24, 2008 - 00:36

How do you determine when get ripped off and what a good value for SEO is ?

I have always wondered if there were some standards for this industry ?

Hi Joe

jimmyg164 - April 27, 2008 - 14:35

By ripped off they did nothing, signed me up for a minimum 3 months @ £200 /month
sent two reports(out of the three), about keyword which were useless said that they were amending text on site but after two months I saw the user account was not accessed

They are a British company and there is nothing i can do to get my money back.

I explained I used a cms at the start oh yes no problem, when came to actually doing anything they had no idea
It makes me so angry as I was only just starting out and they stole £600

And i am sure I am not the first to be taken for a ride and not the last

Hence looking for word of mouth in my future choice (although on the SEO front i have found someone whole is helping me)
