I just finished installing Drupal and followed the instructions for installing a new theme. I made the directory and uploaded the folder, etc., but the theme is not showing up on the list of themes under Site Building>Themes.

Any ideas why this would be happening?

You need to use a theme that has a version for Drupal 6. If you upload a Drupal 5 theme, you would not see it. You didn't mention which theme you are using.

That would be the problem - what a bummer. I really like this theme (Green House). Is it possible to make it work for Drupal 6 with the right tweaking?

There's an upgrade guide with information on converting 5.x themes to 6.x.

You could also post a support request to the theme's project queue asking if there will be a 6.x update.
