can a referenced node's taxonomy because that node's taxonomy?

Using Node Reference, I would like to take not only the node's title but also its taxonomy and apply it to the node I am creating. This is for single value taxonomy, not multiple. Is this difficult? Perhaps even better (for me) would be to take the referenced node's taxonomy and fill in a CCK field with it.
