Hi,

We are TWCenter LLC, Love your Drupal software. We are a website that helps Writers become published authors. We love your book module, however we don't like the fact that "Everyone" can edit, change, delete files that are created by and individual.

We would like too request a novel.module basically the same as your book.module but without the ability for every member to edit, or delete what the author has entered. We want the author to have all rights to the novel, without anyone else being able to delete it or change it.

Thanks

I'd like to see that too. That is something I wish could be done with the existing system as I have some books I don't mind being open for anyone to edit, one I'd like annon people to be able to add to(like a guest book), and others I really don't want anyone but the author or admin to be able to touch. Right now because of the permissions issue I've set my books read only with admin and mods only being able to edit them. Examples are I have a memorial book that I'd like to allow some pages for people to add a new page and those people are annon. For health books I'd like to be able to allow registered to add to them and for tech books admin or mods only. So far though it's all or nothing with the current way things are done. :(

I believe that the current book module will support your proposed use.

Could you confirm that your Drupal installation has access control properly configured. (administer -> access control). You should have all book module permissions (create book pages, edit own book pages, maintain books) disabled for anonymous users. Enable (create book pages, edit own book pages) permissions for authenticated users. Under (administer -> content -> [configure] -> [content types] -> book page), check 'In moderation queue' and 'Create new revision' under default options for workflow.

These settings will allow authenticated users to edit their own pages, and to create pages which then go into moderation (i.e., they won't be visible until they are approved by a user with 'maintain books' permissions).

If you install the node_privacy_byrole module, you can further define roles (e.g., authenticated user, author, editor) to which users are assigned. You can then control who will be able to view content (and more importantly, edit content) on the basis of the users' roles.

If these suggestions don't suit you requirements, please feel free to explain in more detail what exactly you need.

Best regards, Djun

Thanks Djun for responding. I do have it all configured correctly as indicated below, however I have many different roles that I have applied to my website that deal with each type of membership that I am offering. Not all members have access to all areas of my website. I don't want any of them to be able to edit or delete content that another person has created especially a "book or novel". I only want them to have the ability to post a review of the content.

I have tested Drupal for about 1 month before I impliment onto my site.

The other thing is that if you take away the edit/delete capability then it no longer allows you to create root book entries

I am not sure if you know much about the authors world...but most of us work with outlines, sketches og characters, character traits, then we begin to write, chapter by chapter. I love the revision part of drupal as well as the book module, but I would like to see something where say I create the book and the only thing that another user can do is view and give a review.

TWCenter, I have written a module that seems to do what you request. It's in beta, but you can try it now. Get it here:

http://web.lhstech.net/browser/personalbook-module/trunk/

I hope to release it on drupal.org in a few weeks when my current time commitments come to an end.

I think since this was critical for one user, who seems to have gotten assistance, this should be reduced from critical to normal.
