If the Firefox extension is unable to properly connect with the Drupal database (either because the module is not installed or the user in question does not have appropriate permissions) it currently displays a white screen. Detecting the presence of needed modules (devel + drupalforfirebug) and user status would allow better error messages and directions to users.

This feature was added in the 0.0.4 release of the FireFox extension. If the user does not have the Drupal for Firebug module installed on their site (or is visiting a non-drupal site) it will tell that to them (instead of just showing a white screen).
