Convert Joomla SMF (Simpe Machines Forum), Coppermine to Drupal 5.X or 6.X
Hi everyone,
I'm not a very active member here yet, as I'm still learning and reading through the excellent community documentation. I must say its a very welcome change from previous CMS systems I've used.
Anyway I currently want to convert from running 3 separate Open Source Systems and bring it all together with Drupal and possibly Gallery 2.
I currently run:
Joomla (For front end content management and articles).
Coppermine for user images and albums
SMF for forum discussions
SMF and Coppermine are bridged and I believe user tables in SMF are used by Coppermine.
Joomla just hosts content, but there are only really about 12 articles in there, so I could (if neccessary) manually port them over to Drupal as (stories?) possibly.
I'm looking to port everything into Drupal 6 since that's the latest build and looks to have the best theme engine so far.
Since Drupal and Gallery 2 are fairly well connected, I'd be looking at replacing Coppermine with it and bridging Drupal and Gallery 2. However I have read a lullabot article on turning Drupal 4.x into a Flickr style site and honestly that would be all that my users need.
-Users currently can have their own albums, but using (views) I believe would allow me to create a similar effect without the need of a full blown gallery system. I'm not sure how I would convert this though, since there is a fair amount of images and data contained in this gallery.
I have also read about converting to phpBB3 from SMF, I understand there is still some work to be done to port from phpBB3 to Drupal 6 but this looks promising.
I guess what I am looking for is the best possible way to bring all 3 systems into 1 (drupal), not being a Database expert (only knowning some SQL) its a bit difficult for me. (I'm more of a web designer myself).
Any help advice in the right direction would be really appreciated.
PS: May also look at paying someone to convert the data over, if anyone has a recommended specialist for this I'd appreciate it. The project however is a hobby site, so not a whole lot of cash available (if you know what I mean).
Cheers,
Gavin.

The only similar thing with what you're trying to achieve was porting from smf to phpbb2 and then to drupal 5. It worked pretty well you just have to remember that you'll have to reset all the user passwords by doing so. After that i think you can do a drupal 5 to 6 update.

Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for your reply, yes I've read quite a few threads on this sort of thing. To be honest I think converting my existing site might not be the best thing for me to do at the moment. The community is happy with the way the site is in terms of features on functionality. Making users reset passwords is a bit of a hassle and I'm sure will cause some confusion.
I might leave the site running the 3 Open Source Projects it uses and just keep the scripts up to date for security purposes.
For the time being I will do more research on Drupal and start designing some themes for it. Get myself more comfortable with its configuration and set up another project I would like to launch. If all goes well, I will probably port my other website(s) to Drupal in due course.
