For a new type customisation (Journal) I wanted to disable the biblio_year field. I have done so in both the "field defaults" and "type customisation" where it is not longer "required". Unfortunately, this does not work - biblio still forces me to enter a year: Year of Publication must be a number between 1 and 1 or the words "In Press" or "Submitted". It seems to me that the validation code ignores the settings I have changed.

Addendum: I think the same problem applies to the "author" field.

I think if the user interface allows to un-require these (which is good) then the validator should also allow it. Otherwise it is pointless to have the setting. Or did I miss something?

Title: Change behaviour of "year" field » Validator ignores that fields are no longer set to required

(changed the title of the posting accordingly)

You are quite correct, there is a disconnect between the validation code and the GUI. I will look into that.

Hi Ron, any news on this? I would be happy to do some testing etc.

No, I haven't got back to this yet, but I'll keep it in mind.
