Adopt/co-maintain Banner module? [#249424]

Dear Webmasters,

The Banner module appears to be orphaned, with the last commit in January 2007.

Following http://drupal.org/node/59 point 2, I would like to ask to take over this module so I can incorporate some of the pending patches (some of them mine, a couple from 1 year 14 weeks ago!), and work towards upgrading it for 6.0. I did contact the maintainer 10 days or so ago but no reply so far.

(In parallel I will apply for CVS access.)

The banner.module was largely "given up" because it was being rewritten as the ad.module (by the same developer). That module exists, and has a healthy history - why not put your efforts there? Largely, banner.module doesn't really need to exist anymore.

No problem. Maybe a comment could be added to the Banner project page to tell people to use ad.module instead? Also the handbook pages at http://drupal.org/node/206719 and http://drupal.org/node/51718 could be changed to use ad.module instead of Banner, or at least to advise potential users of the situation.
