If I understand correctly, wf_ng's 'Content log messages' is able to cover the features of Activity. If logs events to a views-integrated log. wf-ng, IMO gives a more general solution.

If it is the case, it might be better for the community to join forces and add the integration to other modules via wf-ng.
Is my observation correct, or am I missing something?

I think your observation is correct, from a certain point of view. I think there are many instances where this happens in our community, one module concentrating on one particular feature, and another module encompassing many more features. I don't think that if a person wants specific functionality they should download a module that does the intended functionality as well as a bunch of other things they might not have any use for. But if even one of the other features that are in the 'all encompassing' module proves useful, it probably makes sense to use that instead. I think there is also the fact that you should think about how much code you're running on your site as well. Just some things to think about. This also is a plus of open source I think. Projects might overlap, but we have the freedom to do that and something very good might come out of either project. We also have the option to merge such things.

There was also recently a discussion in the development mailing list on this subject that is an interesting read.

However, I leave it up to the users. If you want to use Activity and submit feature requests, patches, bugs or whatever, please do so. If you want to concentrate on wf_ng, then please do that. I choose to help support Activity since I've not found any use for the extended functionality of wf_ng yet.
