This may be obvious to many but it took me awhile to get a good work flow for images in flexinode as it does not create thumbnails. After trying patches and pulling my hair out for a bit (and later walking away to find beer), found a good work around right infront of my eyes.
Instead of importing an image using the flexinode option enter the image in a text area using img_assist (best module ever) import the image using the "add image" button on the top left, follow the obvious steps and add the new thumbnail.
Thumbnails for all your flexinodes in a work flow that is easy to explain to clients.
