I've installed the event module and put in an event for the 25th. I've placed this in the left side-bar. So now it shows a header "Upcoming Events", lists the event and also shows an icon for iCalendar, a "more" option and "(2 days)". The only thing I really want to display is the Event - not the heading, not the icon or how many days until the event happens.

How can I "hide" all this extra stuff?

Try using views to customize your own upcoming event block.
