* The fb application doesn't show up in the left sidebar in facebook when a user has added and enabled it to show up there.
* There is no link to the app, only to the about page through 'edit my applications'

Am I overseeing a configuration parameter or does this need a fix?

This has nothing to do with the modules. It's controlled by Facebook's application settings. Look for the Side Nav URL setting. Its usually your root canvas page, but could be any of your canvas pages.
