Creating a Home page

I am having issue creating a home page. i would like the home page information to display even before users log into the site. i tried creating a page , but when i do so just the title of the page is displayed and the user has to click on it to expand it . How do i create a static welcome page?

First create a regular page. Then navigate to Adminstrator>Site Information and change the frontpage url to the one you created. and there you go!

say the URL of the site i want to have as the home page is www.x.com how do i get that to show up when the input format of the home page box is in the following format http://sitename/drupal/?q= how do i insert that

- at the bottom, insert a "teaser break point" <!--break-->
- submit

the thought was a single page within context of the theme. maybe "dropping" the blocks on the front page so that single node will be the whole page (block visibility controls)? this assumes a fluid/liquid content area, though.

maybe you are looking for a "splash page" instead? does not have to be flash-based.
