I've researched on how to enable a "user login" block but have not been able to find a modular solution and the closest thing I've found is a method of creating a custom block. Is there not an easy way to facilitate the user login form as a block?

Looks like it disappeared. Switching to another template and back caused the block to reappear.

When you switch to another theme, be sure to visit Site building -> Block to re-enable the blocks you chosen if needed, because when you change theme, it switch to the theme's blocks settings, and also for some themes, the left sidebar or right sidebar is not defined.
