Only frontpage in English | Do it by hand ?

Hi,
my website is mostly about the presentation of pictures. Because of that it is not neccessary to translate all details (subpages) to English. I would like to have a nice "switch button" on my frontpage that makes the user change the language of the front page. Nothing else. The English frontpage is to say roughly: "Hi, welcome on this website. Feel free to watch all the photos and do not be irritated by all the german words."
Is it possible to "clone" the frontpage, translate it, save it as "node/xyz" and then make a link on the existing (german) frontpage. Which modules or tricks do I have to use?
Thanks a lot,
Plipp

Lost in translation?
I think that using content translation does not force you to translate every page – if a translation does not exist, the original text will be shown to all users.
This might seem like over-kill, but is probably easiest (and you never know what the future might hold…).

ok, lets start content translation
Thank you for your reply. I am going to install all modules needed and do it this way. You are right, maybe I will add more english pages in the future.
So how do I create a multilanguage FRONTPAGE ? I do not think Locale + Translation Modules (Drupal 6) are enough, are they? Do I have to use i18n? I appreciate your help to get started with this ger-en website.

Have you tried it?
I haven’t investigated this on D6 yet, but as the project page is quick to point out, i18n builds on core features. Personally, I would enable the core modules, and check what extra features you will get with i18n http://drupal.org/node/133978 . If you think you will need these, install that too.
I would expect you can start with core and add i18n later, but check on the project issues before relying on this.
