Hello,

Following another post of mine about whether drupal is a good chose for a social networking site, I am wondering how much one might cost to build. I have tried creating the site on my own but have never been successful because I am not as technical as I would like to be. So, I hired a company to help me and have not been pleased.

Anyway, long story short, I am not sure if I can get out of my contract, but will definately not renew with them next year. So, I am planning ahead. :)

How does one go about getting price quotes?

I would want something similar, but better. :)

The calendar features are very important to me as the site will revolve around the local community. In addition, I would like user profiles and groups along with the basic social networking features. The response from the other post is that this is doable and the links listed confirmed that.

Have you looked at Dolphin by Boonex. They have a pretty good open source community

Scuttle is very heavily used throughout the web. It is one of those products that would give you a good idea of what you need to do to create your own one.

I spent the last few months developing a bookmark tool ( http://www.socialmarketingriches.com ) , but so many of these sites are dropping out of business, I had to completely revamp it!

I think if you are planning to have a social networking site then there is no doubt Drupal is best. We made Facebook clone i.e Kickwork(http://kickwork.com) in Drupal in just 3months and this is hardly possible in any platform. Be it Calendar or any other feature, drupal lest you do it in a fast and better way.
