Sites/Default folder permissions keep reverting!

Hi.

The folder /sites/defaults keeps reverting to non-writable. I change it, and a little while later, it changes back.

Unfortunately, the user pictures folder is a subdirectory of this folder (in sites/defaults/files/pictures), and if it's not writable, people can't upload their avatar pictures. I know that if I fix the permissions to the defaults folder, uploads work just fine. But something makes those permissions change back.

Anyone had this issue and found a fix?

Thanks,
John

This behavior is intentional, by design, to keep the settings secure (although I never figured out how that helps).

But making the sites/default directory non-writable doesn't make the files directory and its subdirectories non-writable. You shouldn't have any problem with that.

Is it Drupal 6.2?

It is indeed 6.2

It's strange. I opened the permission, users were allowed to upload avatars, the permission reverted, and they're still okay. This wasn't the case earlier.
