How do I best upload a load of photos.

My next drupal site will be a site for my group of friends to share all our photos. I have 322 albums with 7097 photos. Is there any way to maintain the directory structure when uploading my photos? Its just that then I have a back up of all my photos in an organised way in another location. If I am correct just adding them as a node would not maintain it..

What would be the best way to do this? Photo module? Use gallery? I am open to most suggestions. Also what kind of size do people think I should have my photos as. I need to re size them I know that. 800 x 600 is about right or should i go smaller? I have 6gig of web space to play with.

Thanks.

image_import or image_upload

You can add large number of images at a time with http://drupal.org/project/image_import. You can specify which gallery each upload batch would go in to.

You can also use http://drupal.org/files/issues/image_upload.tar to upload a smaller number of images at a time without having to move them to the server first.

I highly reccomend...

this, http://drupal.org/node/23645 If you have XP it is the easiest thing in the world. If you don't there are some tools you can downlonad. It does an amazing job of creating each file as it own gallery/term and uses the names of the image as the node name. I was shocked at how simple this was with xp.

thanks
