Description
You seem to be developing two different versions for Drupal 5. Could you clarify why that is and what's the difference? Which version do you recommend that people trying the module for the first time should install? Which one will likely upgrade to Drupal 6 first and easiest?

Funny, I was just coming to ask this same thing after readinig the Planet post. I started on 1 then tried 2 and really liked it except for the fact that it didn't work on Opera and went back to 1. Since there seems to be no upgrade path from 1 to 2 and since I haven't added many images yet, I'm wondering if I should just deal with the lack of Opera support and use 2?

I'm curious what the plans are as well - having tried version 2 recently and being very excited at the new UI and other features, but not yet able to use it yet as it didn't quite work yet, I was happy to notice the news about it today too - though I noticed it was for version 1, and was less sure at that point about which version I ought to have an eye on :P Personally I have two separate Drupal installs locally dedicated to both versions of Asset so I can assess them both side by side. I'd love to use this in some sites I'm working on, as the other media handling solutions aren't that great especially as you begin adding media besides photos - and are too complex for basic users/clients to understand (whereas Asset is deliciously simple, and all in one uniform UI instead of a different way for each type of media).
Thanks!

Basically 5.x-2.0 is a rewrite of 5.x-1.0. It is currently under construction and some submodules like asset_panels and asset_import are not yet working. Version 5.x-1.0 is a very stable release and is currently the recommended version. All features that go into 5.x-1.0 are ported to 5.x-2.0 and I will make sure there is an upgrade path when 5.x-2.0 is stable enough to become the recommended version.

Thanks, wmostrey. That's a great explanation. Good to know there will be an upgrade path eventually. As much as I love the UI in 2, I guess I'll stick with 1 for now.
