I cloned my site on my local box, upgraded from 5.7 to 6.1, and then installed Views 6.x-2.0-beta1. Previously I had three pages of Views, however many that is. But now none of them show up in Views2. Is this to be expected at this point? I'm just testing so it's all good. At some point will the upgrade path be relatively smooth?

The upgrade process is not smooth; it probably will never be, unfortunately. There are some very serious differences that require a mountain of code to automatically detect, and I just don't have the time to write the code to do that. It'll do a best effort, but you'll have to convert all your local views manually.
There's a decent chance, if you have that many views, that you're relying on modules that don't have their view code updated yet anyway.
Sorry about this.
