I'm having trouble installing drupal onto my site, and I haven't even made it past the first login screen. I've searched through the Drupal install files as well as the wiki on my host (Dreamhost). I've set up a database through Dreamhost and filled in the forms accordingly to what the name of the database was in my Dreamhost account.
Database name:
Database username:
Database password:
But no combination seems to work. Does anybody who has experience with Dreamhost know where I can find this information? I feel like I've tried every possible combination for the past 5 hours.

You must fill database host
You must fill database host in configuration file. Because in dreamhost, database server is not in the same server.
But I have not recommend dreamhost for production site with high traffic. I have bad experience with this hosting.

i had the exact same problem with dreamhost!
at first i thought i was too incompetent to install a simple drupal site after i had done it countless times on other hosts, but after i easily installed drupal on another site, i figured its that awful dreamhost panel. completely confusing. I have a very low frustration tolerance and i have decided to move on to another host. I choose dreamhost because they offered free hosting account to non-profit, and i had two non-profits i had to put up sites for. but now i am so used to cpanel and have some many other projects i am behind on, i've had to drop dreamhost. now i have to get the eep codes for one of my domain to i can transfer it.
have you tried this?
you can't use 'localhost' with dreamhost, in your control panel, goodies, mysql there are mysql host addresses. usually 'mysql.yourdomain.com'.
I believe to change the setting for localhost in the drupal install you have to choose 'advanced' on the first database installation settings.
perhaps that is the issue?
hope that helps.
