Here is a question maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

I need to create a map with dynamic content (I don't want to use google map or anything related to google)

So,, in this map I have several cities and when I hover over a city I want to show the list of events related to this city (to show in a drop down menu) + a link to the event details

can this be easily done? (I am sure its not easy)

I hope my question doesn't get ignored :)

Yes, using google maps :)

I believe this is possible using css if you use image files to show up when a user hovers over a certain part of the map, I've only used this sort of feature with menus but I believe it can be expanded, it should be faster loading than a flash page.

yes I think CSS is the choice..

But here is the thing that is puzzling me how do you do it if you have different cities, how do you group your taxonomies for each city to show it up in a drop menu with all the events?

Problem solved.
if anyone is interested I will explain what I did to duplicate the effect of gmap easily and according to my needs... my method is very easy and can be applied to other applications
