Check out civicspace, it's more oriented towards politics. Civicspace is based on Drupal, currently the 4.5.x branch. Check it out here: http://civicspacelabs.org/home/sites

The following three sites all use Drupal (all use 4.5) and at least have a political component.

Supported by the European Comission of the EU; the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Seniors, Women and Youth; the German Federal Center for Political Education; and the special Federal Entimon program against right wing extermism, racism and anti-semitism its intrinsically a political site (for that matter a locus of politcal sites).

Around the D-A-S-H hub are also many political sites (supported by D-A-S-H) that use Drupal (taking youth groups from idea to their own Internet platform f-a-s-t).

[FYI: even the search is presented via a Drupal module we developed. The Web search is currently talking--- via a simple web services interface--- to a growing database running on a remote servers. The indexer can index 1 1/2-2 million web pages per day on an ordinary PC. Its also indexing up-to-the-minute registered RSS feeds. Its fully distributed.]

Is a poltical society site which I threw together very quickly at uni. It took very little time at all to go live with it.
