I am not sure where to begin...but I would like to modify how the recent comments block works to show more comments than 10, and ideally, for commentors who are not logged in (Guest, not verified) I would like to repace the "not verified" with their ip address hyperlinked to ipaddresslookup site. I know that should be possbile and I have some minimal php scripting skills, but can anyone tell me where and how to do this? I tried to modfiy the number of comments in the comment.module file, but it did not have any effect--would I need to do something to refresh cache on server? I was afraid to tinker too much.

My goal is to nudge the many "Guest" posters into registering on my site. I cannot require registration because it will drive everyone away. But at least with the ip address displayed, people would know the difference between mutliple "guests".

I don't know how to get it display IP-s instead of Guest's, but I know that you can increase the number of recent comments. The thing you need to do is -create new view. In order to not create new one from the scratch, you can clone existing "recent comments" view and make modifications to it, just mark "provide block" for this view, and give number of items to show on the block (if you do so, this provided block will appear in the admin/build/block page ), when go to the blocks administration page and enable this new block, and disable the default one with 10 comments.
Hope it is clear explanation
