Panels Carousel in narrow column

I am trying to replicate the simple two item Carousel Panel shown on the right hand side of the page at:
http://wimleers.com/demo/mini-panels
I have a panel page in the Two column bricks style.
I have two "New Custom Content" items in the pane "Left Above".
The style for the Pane is set to Carousel and it all works fine except for the fact that instead of filling the full width of the "Left Above" pane, it is only extending around 50% of the width (or about 25% of the page width). It is almost as though Carousel is pretending there are now two columns within the "Left Above".
I have checked this under Garland and have the same issue.
Any ideas?
