New content type and it's inadequate view

I needed a content type to show information about who sits on a board of directors, so I created a content type with an image, name, title, phone, email, and a column to sort by. Then I created a view to show it on a page. I have the views module installed and selected the table view. Let me tell you, it really looks terrible. I tried the other view types, and they either break the site, or look even worse. I would like the image to be displayed on the left, and the rest to be displayed to the right, stacked in an order of my choosing, and somehow hide the sort by column which is there to easily insert new members in a particular order or change the position of existing members. I would also like to display the email address as a link if possible - I don't want to create a contact form for each person. Can somebody with a little more experience creating views give me some tips as to tweaking the display of my columns?
