I'm using the asset cck field, and as admin I made a few 'public' directories, containing public image assets.

In access control, I give a users ability to 'create assets' and 'create upload assets'.

But when I log in as another user, and click the asset field, I can only upload to 'My Assets'... I can not access the public folders. The ability to allow users to access a shared 'library' of images is the reason I used this module.

Can you please tell me if this is in fact a bug, or just not clear from the UI (because I assumed 'public' meant accessible by others?)

Thanks in advance for your help!
:)

This is kind of important, isn't it?

Further – The Asset popup allows users to make their image 'Public' or 'Private' (I do NOT want them to be able to do this). It also allows them to make their asset it available for specific roles (I also don't want them to do this either).

But the site admin I DO want to have these options. Ultimately (as above) I also want these options to work, which currently they don't seem to.

Has this been resolved in the 5.x-1.0-beta4 or 5.x-1.x-dev versions?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
:) Scott

You are correct. I think this bug sneaked in beta3. The "public" and "private" permission is about which roles can add files to the directory btw, not which users can eventually see the files.
