Mailing List Module?

I'm new to Drupal and I couldn't find this info. Is there a mailing list module that functions like the mailing lists on drupal.org? I didn't see it in the feature list, module list, or contributed modules. Is there one?

you should use a programm that was develloped as a mailing list programm. There are numerous old discussions on this in the devel mailing list archive.

OTOH it would be interesting to have a module that mimics the mailman frontend but integrates nicely into a Drupal site.

getting settings to work

so what needs to be done in order to get the settings to work?

also, does this module need to be updated to 4.3?

i can help with testing, but i might not be particularly useful in terms of coding. i would love to see this module working. let me know how i can help.

I believe we got it to work on a basic level and could subscribe and unsubscribe via this interface. We ran into a problem if mailman is using a language other than english and making that work with our API.

I can take a look at it this weekend and update the code to 4.3 standards, but if anybody else wants to jump on it sooner, feel free!

Still planning on releasing w/ 4.4?

Saw a comment in CVS that suggested the mailman module would come out with 4.4. Is that still in the plans?

I think killes was interested in finishing up this module. Otherwise the project is up for grabs.

eMailing members or only a certain group

I have looked and didn't find how to email members through drupal. If it doesn't exist, are there any plans in developing some kind of postoffice module (like in pmachine) where we can send email to a user, users, or groups of members?
This is the one thing that keeps me back of implementing drupal on a number of my sites.
Would appreciate your feedback on this.

Here is what I think you were looking for three years ago... just in case someone else runs into your message.

This module allows an administrator to configure multiple Mailman discussion lists. The lists are then made available to users for subscription at various levels (all mail, digest only or silent, i.e. no mail receive but receives posting privileges). Each member's subscription information is stored in a database and unique passwords are generated for each subscription such that settings can be changed by the user from the Drupal site, without requiring further confirmation from the user.

The module uses email commands sent from the Drupal site to the Mailman request address configured for each discussion list.
