What does "ban" means?

razzel - May 9, 2008 - 16:36

When I check Reports/Top visitors i found that myself and another person/IP is marked as "ban" under "Operations". What does that mean? Am I banned? I have no problem reaching my web site.

I don't think it's possible

I don't think it's possible to ban User #1, if that's what you're logging in as. For "normal" users, I would assume it means they can't access the site.

Dave

To ban, or not to ban; that is the question.

Doesn’t the Operations heading mean that ban is a verb? inferring that the user is NOT banned, but if you want to ban them, click the link. (It is a link, isn’t it?)

zeta is correct. "ban" doesn't mean that the user is already banned. It means you can ban them.

…for clarifying.

Reading back, I do sound very unsure – Just my way of trying to convey the thought processes I have used to try to understand a similar UI a while back.

I think people are more familiar with icons meaning an action: But in the web paradigm, the hyper-link often surrounds text, which can either describe the destination or what will happen. Unfortunately many verbs are also nouns, hence the confusion in this case.

I was just pointing out that the clues are there to indicate a verb. The question (It is a link, isn’t it?) was meant to show that I hadn’t looked to check, so implying that I must have guessed from the heading.

I should use less rhetoric :-)
