How do I change the footer?

I had someone develop a theme for me. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to contact him as of late. How/where would I go to change the footer of the theme he developed for me? There is a link I need to get rid of.

Check out the page.tpl.php file in your theme directory, it should be in there.

It was named 1-page.tpl.php

It was named 1-page.tpl.php if that means anything. I've changed the file, uploaded it and still the line of HTML exists. Should I be looking elsewhere?

I found page.tpl.php in the same directory. I looked at it and it doesn't even resemble the site, so the line of HTML I need to take out isn't listed there.

Try the site settings

The default footer field for Drupal is stored in the site settings. You can find it in http://www.yoursite.com/admin/settings/site-information
