Accomplishing a Fading Effect with jCarousel Lite

Does anyone have a good way of adding a fading effect to a jCarousel Lite slideshow? I've looked and looked for a patch or a plugin that would do it, but haven't found one. So two questions....

1) Is it possible to utilize the fade effects that come built into jQuery and integrate it with jCarousel Lite (without a gigantic headache) ?
2) Am I better off starting over with a module like "slideshow_creator" that has the functionality, but seems overkill ?
