If voicexml can be integrated in to a site, it becomes a useful service for those who dont have access to internet but can access the site services through telephone.
There has been some talk about an XML only theme - and this would be a good application of such a thing. I't probably take a lot of work the first time around (rewrite nearly every theme method), but it would definitely be worth it. I think it would be possible to make an entire Drupal site VoiceXML compliant just by making a theme for it. Then, when accessed by telephone, that theme would be used.
We're building Voip Drupal, a novel framework that will make Drupal sites accessible from regular touchtone phones and Internet telephony systems.
As part of the Voip Drupal, we're considering the implementation of a "diaplan_manager.module" to handle VoiceXML and make it easier for users to define their own voice menus.
