Hi everyone this is my first forum post hope i get the response from all you guys.

I am running drupal 6.2 on XAMPP, OS is XP.

Well, my requirement is to make a social networking site and i want these features in my website

Profile page (look and feel that of Orkut, Facebook and myspace)
chat feature
album page with ajax upload module i saw on youtube (lemme know if i need to use any plugin to start ajax)
communities where ppl can upload community pictures
email thing and yeah i wanna know how to set up this smtp server (thats the error im getting)
guide me through all the modules and how to install and use it please.

Wow, I had to double-check to see if this was posted in the paid services forum. What you've essentially asked for is for someone to design your site for you for free. I'm hoping that's not exactly what you meant.

That said, AFAIK, there's no step-by-step guide for this. It's a roll-your-own kind of thing, and though not difficult, it's not trivial either. And as these forums are all volunteer, I truly don't see anyone taking the huge amount of time that a step by step guide like that would take-- especially when the poster seems unwilling invest any effort on their own. More than likely, you'll have to do your own homework I'm afraid.

Break it down in pieces, attack the features you want one-by-one, and post specific questions/problems as you encounter them.

Also, you might want to take a look at Michelle's social networking site (http://socnet.shellmultimedia.com)-- she has a great deal of helpful info and tutorials on doing social networking with drupal.

Alternatively, you could post in the paid services forum for someone to train you or do your site for you.

Its possible.
Most of the features you are loooking are available for 5.7 .

Regarding SMTP server , u need to configure the settings in php.ini
You have to specify SMTP server in that file.

I'll be writing a more detailed review when I'm done working through it, but so far it looks like what you need.
