Is Drupal the best choice?

Part of what I'm trying to decide is Drupal the best choice for a site like I want, something like http://research.yahoo.com. It uses Drupal, but it's more of a static site and I think of Drupal (don't know much) as a tool for a site with changing content, more like a magazine.
I need to develop a site with static corporate info, support forums for about 10k people. Running around the web I found the Yahoo site mentioned above and LOVEd it. Found out they use Drupal. That's why I'm here. But is it a better choice than Dreamweaver and perhaps PHPbb?

Drupal vs Dreamweaver
I'll let others answer the rest of your post (going to sleep now) but I want to point out that you can't compare Drupal with Dreamweaver. See this post I wrote some time ago: http://drupal.org/node/210272#comment-692423

I think marcvangend may have missed the point that bdesilva was trying to make.
For what you want, I would say that you'd be better creating the site using Dreamweaver and phpBB. Or even better, scrap Dreamweaver and use raw xhtml and css if you know how.

Some questions/thoughts for
Some questions/thoughts for you:
1. How static will the "static" content be? Who will be authoring it? How much content will there be? With a CMS like Drupal you can potentially distribute the responsibility for maintaining/updating/contributing the site content more widely and use the site itself as a tool for managing the process. But for a few pages only probably not worth the learning curve.
2. A CMS typically lets you separate content from presentation. So when you want to change the look + feel of the site you merely have to activate a new theme you prepared earlier. No need to republish pages etc. Very useful if you have many pages.
3. Have a play with phpBB and the Drupal built-in forum (also there are some contributed forum modules). Which best meets your requirement? I think there is even a module to integrate phpBB into a Drupal site. Also ask yourself - is it important that the forum is integrated into the main site? If so then something like Drupal might be valuable.
