I'm confused with Node reference, does it just display a link to the selected node or can it do what I need where it displays the referenced node in the Content Type?

Nodereference will only show the Node Title as a Link to the Referenced Node... Maybe this posts can help you http://drupal.org/node/161867... http://drupal.org/node/129295 and http://drupal.org/node/123215
