The 'chart' project provides greater development functionality with a formAPI-like structure. Where as the 'charts' project you are currently working with is less robust but does provide pluggable chart renderers. I think ideally for the end user/developer a merger of the two would be ideal.

I also think merging the two modules makes sense. My focus for Summer of Code is improving the Charts module, but possibly a little during SoC and for sure afterwards we can work on merging the modules. It doesn't make much sense to keep the two modules separate when they perform many of the same functions. You actually have already provided the groundwork for some of my tasks, so I am sure I can use your help this summer, which would be greatly appreciated.
If we can get all the good aspects of each module combined into one, then we will have a very nice module on our hands. I will contact you and we can discuss more of the details about merging the modules. Thanks!
