I was wondering if such a feature would make sense? say so a site's admin (or any other user for that matter) to could access the node w/o entering the password.

It looks cool, but I think it would be nicer if we add support for designated roles too to bypass protection. Can you update your patch with this functionality?

I see where you are coming from. Having said that, I believe the community will benefit by also keeping the user 1 tweak, as it presents a singular case which isn't always covered by the role system.
