From what I can tell the only option available is to move the files from their default location to the new location designated on the file_import setup page.

Is there any possibility that you can add an option to just copy those files, so the original remains in its default location?

Hello. In this case it's hard to know if files need to import again. Try to explain your use case and maybe I'll suggest something to you.
