I had to entirely errase all my info and reinstal Drupal 6.2 due to too many errors. I need to use my backed up file to replace my site www.janettedengo.com It is right now a blank slate. I have no clue on what to do with the backed up file, I found it however. I did not want to mess with that, as I am unsure with my next step. Do I extract it, copy it, etc.?? If someone could help that would be hugely appreciated.
Thx. Janette

Depends on backup type

You didn't say what type of backup you have. Usually software that creates backups has tools to restore them.

ooo you sound like you did
ooo you sound like you did the same thing as me, IF:
you went into control panel, in the files section, clicked on backup, then click FULL BACKUP
then you did the same as me, it save every single bit of data about your sight, including any sql databases or email config.
And rather frustratingly it doe not have a corresponding RESTORE button for you to use.
the button says above it:
Full backups can only be used for moving your account to another server or keeping a local copy of your account
to use this backup i think you have to go to your hoster and ask them to do it.
If this is not how you backed up then see the post above, but generally, do get back to where you were you need to have backed up two things, the files themselves and the sql database.
If you do not have both of these things i do not believe you can restore.
There are many ways to backup
No, I never did the same thing as you. There are countless tools to back up a web site. I know, I wrote some of them myself.
It sounds like you are using WHM/cpanel host and used cpanel full backup.
cpanel backs up entire website, including mail boxes, statistics, etc for you to move entire site over to another WHM host.
Your hosting company can restore your backup easily using WHM.
Using cpanel, you could back up only files and database, and then you could see and use the restore buttons for those backups.
You still can easily restore web site (files and sql dump) from your backup yourself. All you need is a little understanding of gzip, apache, and MySQL ( or PostgreSQL if you use it).

thanks for that, looks like
thanks for that, looks like i may have to go down the complete restore route, before the current emails and stats get too far ahead...
