I tried once to sell this client. The person who was going to take it on decided not to because they were quite busy and could not find time to take on the project. I am in a situation here. I need someone to take this client on. There are a number of benefits which you can weigh yourself and make your decision. Because the party who was going to take on this project decided not to, I am now left with a smaller margin of time to contract this out. I would appreciate it if I could get some offers again and speak over the phone or on skype about this client.

The client is expecting to pay $75 / hour for service. Check this post for more details.

At openflows we often pass clients to other development groups; we often can't bid projects because we're too busy. In keeping with the community-centric ideals of Free Software, and because we're concerned with the mission of many of the organizations we assist, we make decisions on who to refer the client to based on many factors, how much I can get paid for getting rid of a project is never one of the factors.

I would never ask another consultant or consulting group to pay me for such a referral, and have never been asked for a fee for the dozens of projects that have been referred to openflows from other firms.

The concept of "selling" a client means making a decision based on what you can get for the simple act of referral, that does not sit well with me for some reason. The needs of the client and the expertise of the consultant should be the only things that matter.

If the client ends up with a consultant/developer that is not a good fit, often the client puts fault with not only you and the person you sold them to, but on drupal, the drupal community and free software in general. It is important to make your decisions with the clear understanding that you are acting as part of a larger community and your actions reflect on that community.

I think you're probably doing both your client and the drupal community a disservice by treating your client as a commodity in this way.

I'm the developer who didn't take on this project and I turned it down because of the terms, and not because I was too busy. GreenLED wants to offload the client who owes for services, and have the new developer pay him for some of this owed money. This does not make sense in any way whatsoever and this deal should be avoided.

My advice to GreenLED is talk to your bank if you have an immediate cash flow problem and don't expect someone else to come in and pick up on behalf of your clients to pay you for services you rendered to them. (Did I just write that!?)
