Description

Hi,

I'm looking to replace an in-house web file browser with WebFM – it's got 99% of the features we're looking for - especially the flexible role-based permissions system.

There's one feature our old system has which isn't presently in WebFM, and I though I'd describe it here in case it generates some interest.

Presently, we have an icon beside each file which, when clicked, sends an email to users informing them that the file is present on the system. The email contains a link to the page containing the file and a link to download the file itself. The email's not sent automatically on upload, since it then gives us a chance to rename or otherwise tweak the file before sending the notification.

It would be superb to have a similar feature in WebFM. WebFM would have the advantage of being able to tell which users have download permission for that file, so it could notify only those users who can download the file.

Perhaps WebFM's settings would allow the site admin to enter the notification email template, with substitutions for items such as links to the file or file's folder, file metadata, etc.

I'd love to hear others' thoughts on the feasibility of this within WebFM.

OK - been looking at this a bit. Thought it'd be most appropriate to add this feature as a right-click menu option on files. So far I've added an option inside webfm.js.

Looks like the js functions called by menu options can get to all the relevant file information (e.g. file id).

That's the easy bit I suppose. The next bit is to get that back to the server and get the email addresses of all users who are able to download that file. Then I can send them an email. I also need to look at a permission for sending notification emails and an addition to the settings to gather the email template text.

Any tips appreciated :D

Cheers,
Chris

I would really like this option. Unfortunately I'm a newbie so can't help. I'm just setting up my first website using Drupal but this is a feature I have been asked for.

How far did you get with this? Sounds like just what I need!

This sounds like a good idea but it I haven't the free cycles to implement at this time. I do plan to release a new rev sometime this month that will include option modules within the module ala cck or views. That would be a template for adding this functionality.
