ubercart - how long till its 6.x compatible?

theamoeba - May 17, 2008 - 17:54

hello: i was wondering how long till its drupal 6.2 compatible. Also is their a development build that i could download somewhere.

a while...

They're working on making a stable 1.0 version for Drupal5 first, then going for the Drupal 6 version. I'm not sure if they've actually started the 6 version - doesn't seem they have.

right

They're in a sort-of code freeze for 5 right now and are focusing on bug fixes. A stable 1.0 for Drupal5 should be out in a few weeks (tentative, of course, but that seems to be the plan.) Once that's out, they'll get to work on Drupal 6. They're planning on making some code changes - getting rid of some add-on module requirements and adding that functionality to the core, so it may be a while.

so i suppose

theamoeba - May 17, 2008 - 18:16

so i suppose that if i decided to dive into the code and modify it to cause it to work with 6 i could do that?

technically...

technically you can, however I'd advise against it. (And someone in the ubercart forums had this same question.)

If you do, you'll most likely end up with a hybrid system that may or may not be compatible with the real Ubercart for d6. And it would be doubtful that Ryan or Lyle at uc will help with technical issues in such a hybrid system. So you may be on your own.

And it'll probably be more work than its worth.

so if i wanted to use uc it would be better for me to implement drupal 5.x instead of trying to modify the code.

BTW: are there any other eCommerce modules for drupal 6.x? i have looked through the module section and have not seen any eCommerce modules for 6.x

I'd go with 5

silverwing - May 17, 2008 - 19:14

Because of the lack of the major modules support for 6 I'd go with 5.

I thought eCommerce had a beta that was ready for 6. lm_paypal seems to be unmaintained. There was a Magento ecommerce CMS that was supposed to start a module for Drupal, but I don't think they have yet. I'm not sure about ZenCart - best have a look for yourself.

ok, i will have a look around for one.

I would need one that is compatible with NetCash, www.netcash.co.za as i reside in South Africa.
