Empty element displayed in IE 6 and 7

I was really happy to find this, and for the most part it's working quite well. I ran into on thing

I want to display a title inline with the scrolling news items. I applied styles that allow that in Firefox, Safari, and Opera, but in IE, the first element displays inline. After that, they each display block. I attached a screen shot of the first, second, and third times in order.

My goal, again, is to display a title inline with the headlines, so maybe theres a whole better way to do this?
