I tried inserting the blog teaser break tag manually and when I go to preview the page, it splits the text entry space into 2 areas instead of keeping them as one. The first does not have TinyMCE active and the second does.

Hi fred0 - thanks for pointing this out (I think!). I'm finding the interaction between Drupal's built-in Javascript and TinyMCE plugins a bit mind boggling! But I will see if I can come up with a solution.
