how to create a page route with node profile ..

Hi,

I'm a little lost here, and would appreciate a little clarification on how to do this.

Using Node Profile and Node Family.

Basically, when a user registers and creates their initial username and password, I would like page route to take them to the 'edit' of a content type called 'profile'.

What I don't understand is when I create the path with 'user/register' associated to usernode the error 'This drupal path is already in use. Choose another path.' pops up.

Definitely blonde here. Would someone be so kind to show me in the right direction for:

register=user/edit=edit/profile
