Access Denied while logged in at user 1

I have experienced this with both times installing using the 6.x-1.x dev version with the nightly build of gallery 2.3. Everything installs perfectly, but when I go to create some albums from the gallery main page and click "site admin" I get the message "Access denied You are not authorized to access this page." I am able to login directly to gallery2 outside of drupal which leads me to believe this is an account sync problem. Both Durpal user 1 and the admin user on gallery have the same username and password. Hopefully someone can help me with this, I understand though that I am using 2 developmental versions.
