Duplicate listings

Hi,
I'm using Account Types with Account Expiry. Set all the dates for the users and then realized that in the listing (directory) there are 2 listings of each member.
When I tried to remove the role for each user (and keep account type), there was only one listing but then the user was blocked as well (lost all the expiration dates that went back to 1999)
Is this a bug perhaps or is there a way around this please?
