"Welcome tu Drupal" optional in future releases?

Are there any plans to make the "Welcome to Drupal" screen optional in future releases.

As easy as I find Drupal to use and modify after some days of use, it seems unnecessarily complicated to get rid of this message. Surely this could be easier than promoting nodes to the front page or using the views module or whatever? A simple option in the configuration?
